Brussels, 7 February 2017 – Cefic has launched a new website focusing on specialty chemicals, to respond to the growing demand for information.
Specialty chemical clusters represent over 50 sectors of the European fine and consumer chemicals industry, and its membership counts more than 80% small- to mid-sized enterprises (SMEs). These sector groups strive towards delivering products which improve quality of life, health and wellbeing.
States Lars-Erik Johanssen, Chairman of the Board for Specialty Chemicals and Senior Vice-President of Perstorp, “Specialty chemicals are an essential part of our industrial landscape. The new website will support our efforts to inform people about the solutions that we deliver to the society. It will also provide useful contact points for anyone interested to learn about it.”
Hartwig Wendt, Cefic Executive Director of Specialty Chemicals added that "We are proud to offer a platform to our members, specifically to SMEs. Individually they may not possess a strong voice in Europe, but employ a lot of highly-skilled workforces. We hope this supports them to team up to improve resource efficiency, as well as enhance performance, productivity and competitiveness across Europe.”
Specialty chemicals, a heterogeneous group in terms of products and applications, are produced in small volumes but nevertheless made up 28% of total EU chemical sales in 2015 (see Cefic Facts & Figures 2016). This new website will act as a central reference point to help interested stakeholders understand the objectives of each of the clusters, from biocides to resins, pigments and dyes, and more. It aims to facilitate easier identification of key contacts behind sector groups within the world of specialty chemicals and showcase their important objectives.
