  1. Cefic-LRI backed project on Science Integrity wins award

    15 June 2017

    A Cefic LRI (Long-range Research Initiative) funded project on Science Integrity won an award at the fifth World Congress on Research Integrity, held last week in Amsterdam.

    Miriam Urlings, who received the award for the most innovative methodology,  was elected as best from all entries after very successfully defending the innovative analytical methods developed in the Sound Science project of the Department of Complex Genetics Maastricht University (UM), The Netherlands. Her project was jointly funded by the UM research school NUTRIM  and Cefic-LRI.

  2. EUON: A new observatory for nanomaterials launched by EU authorities

    Brussels, 14 June 2017 - To support greater access to clear information on nanomaterials – tiny particles with unique properties for advanced manufacturing –  a new European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) is now live, hosted by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

  3. Cefic celebrates 10 years of delivering on chemical safety law REACH

    Brussels, 7 June 2017 - On 1 June 2017, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the EU's REACH regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals marked their 10 year anniversaries. ECHA is tasked with delivering on the most ambitious piece of chemicals law in existence.

  4. EU chemical industry stands by its commitment to the Paris agreement

    Brussels, 1 June 2017 - In the wake of US President Trump's withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, Cefic today reiterated its commitment to doing its part to tackle global climate change within the framework of the agreement.

  5. 25 years of SQAS - A sustainable logistics assessment scheme

    Brussels, 1 June 2017: the success of the system is now widely recognised as a world class system. With the support and assistance of Cefic, SQAS-like local schemes have been developed in the Gulf, China, Taiwan, SouthAfrica and Brazil.

    Over the past 25 years the face of the chemical and the logistics industry has changed drastically. To remain successful, the SQAS scheme will need to constantly reinvent itself to keep up with the ever changing world. The systems that survive are those that are most responsive to change.  

  6. World Chemical Summit – a must attend event

    01 June 2017

    Brussels, 1 June 2017: Don’t miss out on this unique event, which brings together high-level decision and policymakers and key influencers to discuss and debate the role of chemistry in providing solutions to societal challenges today and in the future. The summit will start with opening remarks from Cefic President Hariolf Kottmann.  Also attending will be Pierre Barthélemy, Cefic Executive Director Research & Innovation and member of the WCS International Advisory Board and, for ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations), Cefic Director General Marco Mensink and Cefic Director of Communications Irene van Luijken.

  7. European Drinking Water calls for harmonised EU-wide legislative framework on contact materials

    The European Drinking Water Industrial Alliance (EDW), representing companies involved with the supply of products or materials used in drinking water applications, has called on the European Commission to revise the Drinking Water Directive to ensure that the safety of contact materials and products is regulated at the EU level. 

  8. Prospects continue to brighten for the EU chemicals industry

    Brussels, 31 May 2017: According to the Ifo World Economic Survey (WES) “second quarter of 2017”, experts’ assessments of the current economic situation were considerably more positive. Economic expectations also improved. A further recovery was seen in the world economy in the second quarter.

  9. Cefic welcomes EU commitment to a future for European industry

    29 May 2017

    Brussels, 29 May 2017 – On behalf of the EU chemical industry, Cefic welcomes the Member States’ commitment to ensuring a stable growth path for European industry. This follows the formal adoption today by the EU Council of a call for the Commission to include a coordinated and strategic industry policy in its 2018 work programme to strengthen the future of Europe.

  10. Alliance of Energy Intensive Industries supports EU clean energy leadership

    23 May 2017

    Brussels 23 May 2017 – To deliver on its promise, the Clean Energy package should unleash the commercial opportunities presented by the transition to sustainable energy. This is the message from Cefic as it unites with 12 other energy intensive industries for a joint vision on the legislative package.
