  1. Social dialogue essential for worker protection, says MEP

    Brussels, 13 December 2017 - Hosting an event co-organised by Cefic sector group Formacare, MEP Claude Rolin (EPP, Belgium) stressed the importance of involving social partners in discussions about worker protection. The event, held on November 23, brought together representatives from the formaldehyde industry, downstream users, social partners and policymakers to discuss the complementarity between REACH and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.

  3. Key Enabling Technologies, crucial to success of future EU Research and Innovation Programme

    Brussels, 13 December 2017 -The Key enabling technologies (KETs) concept is one of the most successful innovation initiatives in Europe and must remain a key element of the next EU Research Framework Programme to ensure it can accelerate change and benefit citizens. That was the main message from the high-level debate organised jointly by SusChem, A. SPIRE and EMIRI on November 28, 2017 as part of the 9th European Innovation Summit.

    Brussels, 7 December 2017Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is expecting a solid 3% growth of chemical output in the EU in 2017, driven by a growing demand from customer industries. A slight deceleration to around 2% is forecast for 2018.

  6. Chemical industry CEOs reaffirm strong commitment to EU Research & Innovation funding programmes

    Brussels, 23 November 2017 -- CEOs of 28 leading companies this week signed a statement reaffirming their strong commitment to EU research and innovation (R&I) funding programmes. The statement was handed over to the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, by BusinessEurope President Emma Marcegaglia and Director General Markus J. Beyrer. It supports the EU framework programmes (FP) and the importance of the role the private sector plays for the success of EU R&I financing and innovation ecosystem. 

  7. Cefic joins the Stakeholder Bioeconomy Manifesto to advance EU bioeconomy agenda

    Brussels, 16 November 2017 -- Together with 25 other organisations, including trade associations, NGOs, and academia Cefic signed the European Bioeconomy Stakeholders Manifesto in order to accelerate a discussion at the EU and member state level about the development of a world-leading bioeconomy in the EU in the face of mounting global competition. 

  8. Improving outlook for EU chemicals

    Brussels, 15 November 2017 - The chemicals business climate is brightening, according to Cefic’s latest Chemical Trends Report. Chemicals output was up 3.7% during the first eight months of the year, rising in most chemicals sub-sectors. Chemicals prices surged 5.3% during the same period, with producer prices above the previous year’s level. The first seven months of the year saw sales develop favourably, and chemicals consumption go up significantly.

Today, Energy Intensive Industries are calling for attention from decision makers on this particular dimension, especially in the context of the Clean Energy Package.
