  1. How the European chemical industry could become carbon neutral by 2050

    Brussels, 19 July 2017 – The chemical industry’s ambition is to play a leading role in the transformation of the European economy to a low-carbon and circular one by creating innovative climate and energy friendly solutions for its own processes and for many other industries through chemical products. A new report Low carbon energy and feedstock for the European chemical industry released today explores how the chemical industry can become carbon neutral by 2050. 

  2. Cefic presents Estonian presidency and MEPs with joint declaration on industrial strategy

    Brussels, 13 July 2017 -- On July 5th the European Parliament adopted a Resolution forcefully demanding that the European Commission develop a cohesive industrial policy strategy promoting re-industrialisation by the beginning of 2018. Cefic was part of an industry delegation that handed over to the new Estonian Presidency and ITRE MEPs, on July 11th, the joint declaration by 130 industry associations that Cefic co-signed earlier this year. 

  3. EU chemicals industry on a promising trend

    Brussels, 13 July 2017 -- The EU chemicals industry is currently experiencing a promising trend, according to the latest Cefic Chemicals Trends Report. Production in the sector grew 2.4% through April 2017, reaching its highest level in eight years.  Producer prices are above the previous year’s level for the first time in four years.  And total sales, too, saw a positive development, climbing by €9.5 billion through March 2017.

    Brussels, 10 July 2017 -- There is a growing trend of major companies looking to secure reliable and competitive power from renewable energy. 100 top companies including leading industrial players are already committing to procure 100% renewable power in the short term through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

  6. FP9 paper: EU chemical industry sees important role for research and innovation in boosting EU growth

    Brussels, 4 July, 2017 – The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has published its thought paper on the EU’s upcoming framework programme (FP9). Cefic concludes that a reliable growth strategy for the European economy can only be realised with partnership driven innovation to address major challenges, provide competitiveness and sustainability.

  8. Cefic’s petrochemical industry sector discusses future of European manufacturing with young MEPs

    Three MEPs – Eva Kaili (Socialist/Greece), Ivica Tolic (Conservative/Croatia) and Miroslav Mikolášik (Conservative/Slovakia) – have expressed their belief that the European chemical industry has a significant role to play in the EU’s economy, and that striking the right balance between economic and environmental requirements is crucial in this respect. 

  9. ETS Innovation Fund should finance new low carbon technologies

    29 June 2017

    Brussels, 29 June 2017 -- Speaking at a recent event, Cefic Director General Marco Mensink said the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) Innovation Fund should contribute to technology that can effectively decrease CO2 emissions in the ETS sectors, and be designed to complement, not overlap with existing funding schemes.
