Chemicals account for 8% of total EU manufacturing spending in R&D of €98.5 billion. They represent the 5th largest spending sector. If the R&D spending of the pharmaceutical sector is included, chemicals are the top investor in R&D in European manufacturing, accounting for almost one fourth of total R&D investment of manufacturing.
