In 2006, the overall extra-EU chemicals trade surplus increased compared to last year, which is against the trend of the extra-EU trade surplus in manufacturing. For the first time in two years, the chemicals sector is managing to perform better than the manufacturing sector and now accounts for 28% of the total manufacturing trade surplus - an increase of 8 percentage points in comparison to last year.
