HSE reporting guidelines

Foreword

In 1993 CEFIC published the first Guidelines for Environmental Reporting for the European chemical industry. We have come a long way since then. Most companies do report extensively at site and corporate level and most federations publish their annual Indicators of Performance to wider audiences. However this is just the start, and we need to build on these sound foundations to meet our Responsible Care commitments.

We have been listening to what our stakeholders want and we recognise the clear message that our sector should be reporting health, safety and environmental performance at European level.

That is why CEFIC is delighted to introduce this new guidance which creates a common reporting framework for chemical companies and national chemical industry federations, and very importantly encompasses health and safety for the first time. Furthermore now that there is this agreed framework, the European chemical industry commits itself to reporting at CEFIC level on all the 16 core parameters it contains by the year 2002. These parameters will form the basis for our reporting in the coming five years.

We are looking forward to monitor the sector’s HSE performance improvement in the coming years and to maintain the dialogue with our stakeholders.
