   Evonik Industries (Germany)

   Cooperation with local farmers led Evonik to find a useful outlet for warm water from its carbon black production site: early season cultivation of asparagus. Neighbours and local media were very positive towards the project.

   

2. 

   DuPont de Nemours (Belgium)

   This noise reduction project over a 3 year period aimed at improvements for the DuPont Mechelen site in Belgium, and responded to concerns within the local community.

   DuPont Asturias (Spain) - Winner of the Large Company Award 2008

   Excellent example that saves on renewable resources and exploits the symbiosis between DuPont's need for bio treatment nutrient feed and the need to manage a waste product at local sweet manufacturer, Chupa Chups. The Judges' Comment:"An excellent collaboration between the DuPont site and a local sweet factory with threefold benefit: waste reduction, substitution of depletable resource and significant cost savings for both companies."

   GlaxoSmithKline (Belgium)

   Wellness together� describes a comprehensive project aimed at GSK Biologicals employees and involving a number of different initiatives focused on health, safety, the environment and the community.

   Rottapharm Ltd (Ireland)

   An all-rounder demonstrating Responsible Care in action includes projects covering energy efficiency, health and safety, and product stewardship.

   

6. 

   Rembrandtin Lack (Austria)

   This detailed submission demonstrates how various measures over a number of years combined to achieve a major reduction in the use of organic solvents, driving down VOC emissions, improving plant safety, and reducing health risks.

   

7. 

   GlaxoSmithKline Cork (Ireland)

   A very comprehensive submission on the use of pre-assembled volumes (PAVs) to reduce the risks of working at height made this a good example of how to work more safely and responsibly, and save money.

   BASF SE (Germany) winner of the Special Award 2008

   BASF's Carbon Balance of CO2 emissions and savings based on the lifecycle principle from cradle to grave. This global project addresses a leading societal concern - climate change - and makes BASF the world's first company to present a comprehensive carbon balance for its operations by assessing the company's carbon footprint. Judges' Comment: "Impressed that BASF is leading the development: a new global measurement approach that can be applied by companies from other business sectors to establish their own meaningful "carbon footprints".

   Albemarle Europe (Belgium), Chemtura, ICL Industrial Products VECAP

   Voluntary Emissions Control Action Programme of the flame retardant producers. This submission from three major flame retardant producers is backed by impressive quotes from external stakeholders, and demonstrates good cooperation between producers and users to improve chemicals management.

    AHP Manufacturing (Ireland)

    Innovative use of proven commercial techniques ensured this marketing and communications strategy on EHS issues created a safer working environment for all.
