    Cefic position on Energy Roadmap 2050

    The European Commission’s Communication ‘Energy Roadmap 2050’ (15 December 2011, COM(2011) 885/2) considers how the EU can decarbonise its energy system while ensuring security of supply and competitiveness. Cefic supports these central goals of EU energy policy, and sees the Roadmap as a starting point for further discussions on future policy options and choices.

    Cefic considers the European Commission (EC) Communication “Energy Efficiency Plan 2011” (EEP 2011) as an important step towards addressing climate, energy security and competitiveness challenges cost-effectively. The EEP 2011 rightly addresses all the various stages in the energy supply chain from generation to end-use and places great emphasis on the non-ETS sectors buildings and transport.

    Measuring and managing CO2 emisions of european chemical transport

    Report prepared for Cefic by Prof Alan McKinnon (Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh) This report, commissioned by Cefic, (download here) reviews a range of existing approaches and methods for measuring transport CO2 emissions and looks at lessons that can be learned from other industry sectors. Based on this review and taking into account the specific characteristics of chemical supply chains, Prof McKinnon proposes a set of recommended average transport emission factors for the different modes of transport and intermodal combinations.
