Many of the REACH processes are supported by IT tools. Cefic recommends the use of these IT tools in order to have a harmonised approach.
ESCom Standard
The European Industry has recognised the importance of using harmonised phrases and IT standard for Exposure Scenario communication under REACH. A catalogue with standard phrases for Exposure Scenario communication has been prepared by different industry sectors, associations and companies. IT providers together with industry have also developed an XML standard for communication between different IT systems.
New: ECHA has prepared an XML standard for ESCom phrases import in Chesar 1.2 and is now available in the download package.
The use of the harmonised phrase catalogue together with the XML standard by all stakeholder of the Exposure Scenario communication process is essential. The complete package, called ESCom, together with the ESCom phrases import in Chesar 1.2 XML standard, is available for free after registration and acceptance of the license conditions.

Supply Chain Communication Tool – User interface constraints and XML format schema
The REACH registration dossiers submitted by Manufacturers & Importers of substances will include Exposure Scenarios (ES) covering the Uses of those substances. It is expected that Suppliers will undertake a process to inform the Customers of their products about the Uses that are intended to be covered by the Exposure Scenarios.
Cefic anticipates extensive and voluminous communication between Suppliers and Customers. Therefore, Cefic has created an ES Development and Communication Model (the ES Model).
The ES Model and the guidance on Supply Chain Communication helping user on REACH requirements regarding ES are published in the Document and Tools page.
To support the communication process following the ES Model, Cefic has also created IT requirements ( the document is also published in the Document and Tools page). Using them, Companies can build a Communication Tool. And this will help Manufacturers, Importers as well as Downstream Users to bring consistency and uniformity in the Communication process.
Within the IT requirement document, it is recommended to build a user interface to allow easy exchange of information. Constraints for this user interface have to be taken in account to ensure efficient and proper exchange, and an easy extraction of data via an XML file. The extensive explanations about the constraints are gathered in a document on the IT tools webpage.
Users are invited to read carefully the Guidance, the IT functional requirements document as well as the interface constraints document prior to use the XML schema.

Pre-SIEFs Analyser Tool developed by Cefic and CONCAWE
SIEFs (Substance Information Exchange Fora) are formed by companies that intend to register the same substance. They are there to facilitate data sharing between the companies, and hence avoid duplication of studies and to agree classification and labeling where there is a difference between registrants.
Users can obtain or update the list of pre-SIEFs members who have pre-registered the same substance through the REACH-IT portal.
To help Industry working as easily as possible with the pre-SIEF data, Cefic and CONCAWE have developed a pre-SIEFs Analyzer tool.
The tool generates Excel sheets gathering all data from the REACH-IT pre-SIEF information. The sheets of the Pre-SIEFs Analyser Tool are designed to facilitate data management.
Download the tool and the user guide (NEW version is V1_2, 15th December 2010. Users are invited to carefully read the user guide provided)
IMPORTANT: ONLY VALID FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS 32-BIT - The tool has been designed to be compatible with Excel versions from 2000 to 2010. Users are encouraged to report any error that they might receive when using these tools.
