The International Trade section is the second part of the annual Cefic publication Facts & Figures. The section focuses on trade activity in the EU chemicals sector with the rest of the world, including geographic trade blocs, regions and countries. The section also provides a sectoral analysis of the main categories of chemicals – consumer chemicals, specialty chemicals, petrochemicals, and basic inorganics. The final part of the section includes a competitive analysis of EU trade activity with other major markets.
The European Union in 2010 was the leading exporter and importer of chemicals in the world, accounting for about 41 per cent of global chemicals trade.
