This section looks at energy use by the chemicals industry in Europe, including fuel and power consumption. The section also looks at trends in EU chemicals sector energy intensity and how it compares with the US chemicals industry.
In 2009, energy intensity, or the energy consumption per unit of production in the chemicals industry, including pharmaceuticals, was 54 per cent lower than in 1990.
