Peroxygens Sector Group

Uses and properties

The Peroxygens Sector group is  taking care of the following products :hydrogen peroxide and sodium percarbonate.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidising agent used mainly for bleaching pulp and de-inked recycled paper. Another application is the manufacture of other chemicals such as sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate and peracetic acid. Other uses include industrial applications (textile bleaching and disinfectant in aseptic packaging) and personal and domestic applications (hair bleaching, wound disinfection and eye contact lenses). 

Sodium percarbonate is used to formulate a variety of cleaning products such as powders or tablets sold as laundry detergents, dishwashing products, or a variety of other cleaning products.

Peracids are used as disinfectants and intermediates for chemical synthesis.

European manufacturing

The Sector group members are: Aktivsauerstoff, Arkema, Belinka Perkemija, Eka Chemicals, Ercros, Evonik Degussa, FMC Foret, Kemira and Solvay.


The manufacturers of peroxygens have split their efforts on compliance with REACH in separate consortia based on the respective substances.
