Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Mr. Chapman received a Bachelors of Science in chemical engineering from Surrey University, England in 1984. In the same year, he began his career with Exxon Chemical Company at the Esso Refinery in Fawley, U.K. He advanced through a series of engineering, operations, planning and marketing roles in various Chemical Company affiliates in the U.K., Belgium, the U.S. and Hong Kong prior to the merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1999.
Following the merger, he served as the polyolefins sales manager for the Asia Pacific region, then as the Fujian, China project manager, based in Hong Kong. In 2002, he joined the ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Company as head of ExxonMobil Aviation International Ltd. before becoming vice president, industrial and wholesale fuels, based in the U.S.
He was appointed vice president of the global polyethylene business unit for ExxonMobil Chemical Company in 2005 before becoming executive assistant to the ExxonMobil Chairman of the Board and President in 2006. In 2007, he became president, ExxonMobil Global Services Company, Exxon Mobil Corporation, and assumed his current position in April 2011.
