Wilfried Haensel - Director General Industry Sector Plastics/PlasticsEurope

Wilfried Haensel, Executive Director of PlasticsEurope, is a German national with a PhD in business administration and economics. Prior to his appointment as the new lead of PlasticsEurope and its five regional offices, Dr Haensel has worked for BASF during the last 22 years. He has held a number of roles in various regions, with business experience predominantly in plastics.

From 1996 to 1999, he lived in Hong Kong and Singapore where he was responsible for the foam plastics and later for the styrenics business in the Asia Pacific region. Upon his return in 1999, he assumed responsibility as Group Vice President for the styrenics plastics business unit in Europe.

In 2005, Dr. Haensel was appointed head of a global senior project representing a major change programme towards stronger customer focus and market orientation.
