2. Promote mix of voluntary actions and regulation based on common principles
3. Increase visibility of chemical industry contributions
The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) is the world-wide voice of the chemical industry, representing chemical manufacturers and producers all over the world. ICCA operates by coordinating the work of member associations and their member companies, through the exchange of information and the development of common positions on policy issues of international significance.Three main issues were identified to focus on which are: Chemicals Policy & Health - Climate Change & Energy and Responsible Care®. ICCA also serves as the main channel of communication between the industry and various international entities, such as inter-governmental organizations (IGOs) and NGOs, that are concerned with these global issues. For example, ICCA has developed strong relationships with UNEP, the UNITAR and OECD.
Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations, work together to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.
The Responsible Care ethic helps our industry to operate safely, profitably and with due care for future generations, and was commended by UNEP as making a significant contribution to sustainable development at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.
